Library 2.0

I've read all the perspectives and more. It all sounds very exciting. North Shore Libraries are already implementing some of the things mentioned. I think there is a place for technology, WorldCat is great, Google Books refers users to it. North Shore Libraries books are listed on it. But how many people are "SecondLife3 subscribers who spend more than forty hours a week online, immersed in its virtual graphic world"? A public library is not just for research, it is for recreation and relaxation. For a lot of people it is a social place where they can meet and interact with other people. I can't see Web 2.0 or the blogosphere replacing that.
