Technology
An example of technology which I have found very useful is Google Maps. I have been researching my family history and it is great to be able to look up addresses found on the British census. You can see a street map, a terrain map and a satellite picture of the area which will zoom in close-up to the property your ancestors lived at (providing the street and house are still there). If you click on More (beside the map) and then photos you can see photos of buildings in the vicinity of the address. I gives a much better idea of where family lived.
